Problems vs. Difficulties

A friend teaches integrated circuits using highly specialized tools. He reminds students that the work involves both problems and difficulties. Know the difference and don't waste his time with difficulties.

The solution to a problem has lasting value. Working problems can be a joy and involve a lifetime.

The solution to a difficulty is arbitrary and usually due only to accidental complexity. It will be different tomorrow.
