Old to New, Left to Right

In a list of things, the newer things should be on the right. Just like writing.

This is backwards in Conversation Clubs and should be changed. The list of sites should be on the left with the newest of the sites the right most of the sites.

The list of page names should appear on the right. The site flags will lead into the names, left to right.

The order of pages in the line up should also sequence from oldest to newest. This is consistent with making sure that the right most page is visible when the lineup is long.

This is backwards in Recent Changes too.

For what it's worth I think it's exactly right as is. Reverse chronology is a well-established convention for observing change in fluid information spaces. -- Jon Udell

It's odd -- visualizing history I think we still want the left to right dynamic, but reading feeds we want reverse chron. I care most that the newest page is loaded as the active page in conversation clubs, the rest just needs to be consistent one way or another.

Incidentally a right to left presentation might falsely suggest the left most flag is the origin; that won't usually be the case. -- Mike Caulfield

It does seem to me that there's a tendency to associate reverse chronology with vertical presentation as opposed to horizontal. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with stacks and registers in early CS. -- Jason Green

Given the current situation it pays to know how to shrink text in your browser. In mine I type command-minus. -- Ward Cunningham
