Kate Bowles

Cinema audience historian at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Sometime educational designer with a focus on spatial and navigational models for thinking and learning.

Desire paths: rational collective reaction not loved by municipal designers.

Here to ask: how does navigational design make it easier for people to go where they need idiosyncratically? Which obstacles make it harder? And then when these obstacles generate reactions that become shareable and consistent, and interact with environmental conditions, what patterns result and what do we learn from those?
